Newborn Insurance Enrollment
To help avoid unexpected medical bills and to meet insurance’s timely filing limits, it's important to arrange insurance coverage for your newborn as early as possible.
What We Need at the First Visit:
Please provide an active insurance policy for the parent who will be adding the newborn to their plan. This allows us to check the status of baby's enrollment.
How We Track Enrollment:
- We will monitor your baby’s insurance status for the first 5 weeks after birth. If your baby is not enrolled within 5 weeks, outstanding charges will become your responsibility, and you will have to pay in advance for future visits.
- It is the parent’s responsibility to update us once insurance becomes active.
Important Notes About Coverage:
- Medicaid Applicants: Babies need their own individual Medicaid application. They cannot be added to a parent’s Medicaid plan.
Dependent-of-a-Dependent: In most cases, insurance plans do not allow coverage for a dependent’s child.
For example: If the baby's mother is on her parent’s (the grandparent’s) insurance, the newborn cannot be added to that plan.
