Important Update for Families with Regence Insurance Plans

Regence has recently updated its reimbursement policy for tongue-tie procedures (frenotomy). Here’s what this means for you:

• If you have a Regence insurance plan, you’ll need to first schedule a consultation at our oƯice with one of our providers to evaluate your baby’s needs.
• If the procedure is necessary, a separate appointment will be arranged with another qualified provider to perform the tongue-tie release.

We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to ensure you understand these changes and any potential impacts on your coverage.

The updated Regence policy includes:

• A requirement for ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) to be diagnosed by a qualified healthcare provider other than the one performing the procedure.
• Confirmation through a physical exam that the tongue-tie is causing one or more of the following:
• Challenges with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding due to an ineffective latch.
• Difficulty with speech related to limited tongue movement.
• Issues with weight gain, failure to thrive, or decreasing growth percentiles.
